What Does MTD Mean, And How Does it Affect Me?
MTD is HMRC’s new digital approach to taxes, aiming to improve accuracy and cut paperwork. VAT-registered businesses have been on board since April 2022, and from April 2026–28, it’s rolling out to self-employed individuals and landlords with incomes between £0k and £50k. Soon, quarterly ITSA (Income Tax Self-Assessment) updates will replace the annual self-assessment.

How Do You Work Remotely?
With cloud-based accounting systems and secure document-sharing tools, I can handle everything from receipt uploads to bookkeeping from anywhere. Services like Dext and Apron let you snap a receipt and upload it instantly — so you can say goodbye to cluttered desk drawers, carrier bags, shoeboxes or glove compartments packed with receipts.
Do I Still Need An Accountant?
Yes, and our roles complement each other. I manage day-to-day bookkeeping — making sure your transactions are accurate, VAT codes are correct, and cash flow is clear. Accountants then pick up for tax advice, year-end accounts, and strategic planning. I’m happy to work seamlessly with your accountant or recommend trusted partners who share our values of clarity, care, and collaboration.
What Do You Need From Me?
Hopefully not a lot! But I do need some things from you. For example, access to your accounting system, a quick understanding of how your business works, and your usual supply of paperwork (including bank statements, receipts, invoices). From there, I take over: categorising transactions, matching invoices, reconciling accounts. You can catch up with us weekly, fortnightly, or monthly — whichever suits you best — via email, WhatsApp, voice notes, or calls.
What Software Should I Use?
I’m a certified partners in Sage, Xero, and FreeAgent. Each has its strengths, but I’ll guide you to the one that best fits your business. I also negotiate better subscription rates through our partnerships.
I’m A Bit Of A Control Freak. Can I Still Outsource?
Definitely! I believe in starting your outsourcing journey when you’re ready, whether that’s at about 80% capacity or just starting out. That gives you time to get to know us, share your preferences, and build trust. Regular communication — whether by Zoom, calls, or a coffee meet — is key to a smooth collaboration.
How Much Does It Cost?
It varies from business to business. But I use a tool called Socket to create clear, tailored quotes based on what you actually need, so you’ll never end up paying for more than you use.

Who’s Actually Doing My Work?
Most bookkeeping tasks are handled by me, Claire. Occasionally, I may subcontract for specific admin support. I generally ask that clients invoice their customers themselves, since you know the details best — though I can definitely offer reminders and even help set up automated supplier payments if wanted. If your services include payroll, this is sub-contracted out to a trusted partner.
